Liberia Trip 2009

It is now Day 6 of our trip and all is well. We have been to 7 orphanages so far to distribute backpacks (or "bookbags" as they call them). The kids are amazing as always and love to have their pictures taken. Of course we don't pass up this opportunity. We spent all day yesterday traveling to Gbangha (prounounced "Bonga") on the bumpiest and longest road you can imagine. It was well worth it though. The kids, who don't get as much attention as they are more central Liberia, were so grateful. Today we all got to step out of our comfort zones (except for the 2 principles with us that are used to teaching) to teach a sunday school class. This went very well. We spent all of today with The Lord's Prayer and had a great time. We are headed out again tomorrow to distribute more backpacks. Please keep the children and us in your prayers. We thank God for safety and a very blessed time here.

We were also able to visit Phebe Gray Orphanage where the well was built. The kids were much more lively, which was amazing to see after seeing them dehydrated and without energy last year. They are very grateful to those who contributed to make this happen. Thank you so much!

The Well Is Built!

With the help of many generous donors, we have collected enough money to build a well for the Phebe Grey Orphanage in Liberia. They have been living without a working well and lacking the money to build one. The children are constantly dehydrated, receiving only one glass of water a day, which is very little in the hot climate of the African country. Until recently, they have had to walk miles to retrieve the small amount of water they could find. Over the past few months, their new well has been built and is now being used by the grateful orphanage. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to this worthwhile project.

Update

Well, things are going great here in Liberia. We have managed to distribute around 600 backpacks to 4 orphanages. We wish you all could see the excitement on the orphans faces and the shouts of joy when they received their backpacks. It is an indescribable feeling to witness such joy over these gifts you have sent. We have many many pictures and videos to bring back to share with you all. These children have all been told where these Love Packs have come from and why they have been sent to them. It is all about the love you have so graciously given them. They are grateful beyond words. You have changed their lives forever! Thank you Thank you Thank you to all our donors from the bottom of our hearts.

Liberia Trip Update

We've successfully arrived in Liberia safely. The children are still as beautiful as ever. We've seen many backpacks from last year and recorded video testimony from a couple of these children. An update on our container: It was received in port on Saturday, February 2 and we just got the good news that it will be out of port tomorrow, Friday February 15. We are headed to where the container will be staged tomorrow to help with the organization for distribution. Many pictures and video are being taken to bring the story back to you, our donors. We only wish you all could be here to experience this with us. There are no words to describe the feeling when you are being loved on by these beautiful children. Keep praying for us that many lives will be touched through your generous donations.
